How a photo calorie estimate works
NutriCam uses AI to identify the visible foods in a meal photo and estimate portions, calories, protein, carbohydrates, and fat. A photo can help you get started without looking up every food individually.
Review the result before adding the meal to your food diary. Check whether the foods and amounts match what you ate.
What a photograph cannot measure
A picture shows a meal’s appearance, not its actual weight. It may not reveal cooking oil, sauce, fillings, or every ingredient in a mixed dish. Similar-looking plates can have different nutritional values.
Photo results are estimates, not exact measurements of your meal’s nutrition. Use ingredient, portion, or package information when you have it.
Take a useful meal photo
- Keep the whole meal in the frame.
- Use even lighting and avoid strong shadows.
- Avoid close-ups that hide part of the plate.
- Remember ingredients that are underneath or mixed into the food.
Photo analysis and barcode scanning work together
A photo is a starting point for a prepared meal. For a listed packaged product, the barcode scanner can retrieve product nutrition information. The data available depends on the product; check its label and the amount you consumed.
